No Place To Hide!

January 22nd, 2009

I had my pre-natal check-up on Tuesday.  I was late getting there because I got stuck at work… literally.  (Melting ice is bad under the front wheels of your car, especially on an incline.)  When I got to the clinic, I had to wait almost 40 minutes to be called back because it was one of those “OMGWTFBBQ-I-HAVE-TO-BE-SEEN-TODAY!!!!!!!!!!” days for my doctor.  Having had a glass of water before I left, I was a little uncomfortable.

After getting called back, doing the UA, having my vitals taken, and all that stuff, we checked my measurements (I’m perfectly where I need to be), my weight (lost 0.1 lbs this week), and listened for a heartbeat.  Given that the little parasite baby has been eating off my fat reserves, we got the heartbeat immediately as it has pretty much lost all of its padding and hiding places!!!!!!!!

My next ultrasound (for gender) will be on Friday, January 30th at 9 a.m.  This is good because it means that I don’t have to deal with all the “OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I’M IN THE E.R. AND I HAVE A BROKEN BONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” people (who were going to be shot last time if I’d had to wait any longer — they make you have 32 oz. of liquid in your bladder for two hours prior to the ultrasound and I was getting crabby) and I can actually work most of my day.

The “superspecial ultrasound to check for PAA” will be on February 20th at 10 a.m. in Great Falls.

Meanwhile, I’m thankful that one of my regualr skirts from before my pregnancy still fits.  Granted, I got it a size larger because I hate having pencil-thin skirts but it does fit and it works for winter weather as long as it isn’t sub-zero.  I’m also carrying my baby fairly high so my hips and lower abdomen are still pretty normal.

This Week

January 17th, 2009

It’s been a week of ups and downs.

[+] Up: I felt the baby move for the first time a week ago.  We think it’s going to be a kickboxer like its mommy.

[+] Down: This kid requires more calories than I normally intake during the day and I can’t actually *eat* that much without serious indigestion.

[+] Up: My pregnancy pants fit and will hopefully last me throughout the pregnancy.  They also look better than my normal work clothes.

[+] Down: I’m getting fat.  (Yes, I have a complex about my weight.)

[+] Up/Down: I got my pregnancy tops in the mail from Old Navy.  The only problem: I overestimated my size and am having to exchange a few because they’re WAAAAAAY bigger on top than I am.

[+] Down: Got hit with really severe stress on Tuesday night that kept me home Wednesday with panic attacks and Thursday with the mother of all migraines.  I had to actually take narcotics for it because the pain was so severe and I can’t have any of the normal NSAID’s or triptans because of teh baby.

[+] Up: I’m almost to the halfway point of this pregnancy.

The stretch marks on THE TUMMY look like a little kid ran their fingernails down each quadrant of it.  I’d post a picture but I don’t think people want to be grossed out that much!

The next pre-natal appointment is Tuesday and we’ll talk about scheduling the next ultrasound at that point.  My guess: probably late February/early March to check for the pulmonary artery atresia.  We’ll also find out at that point if the baby will be Katie or Daniel.

Finally!!!!

January 6th, 2009

My pre-natal appointment was today and we FINALLY have a heartbeat on the Doppler.  We got it pretty quickly and then the brat caught on and decided to go for a swim.  Dr. Awesome chased it around my stomach for a few minutes and then got it.  The fetal heartbeat was 150 which is a good number.

I also lost weight over Christmas.  No idea how I did that, especially as it means that I’ve only gained about 10 lbs total with the pregnancy.  (I know… I have 5 months yet to go and I’ll gain more in the next few as the baby gets bigger.)

First of the Tummy Pictures

January 3rd, 2009

OK… I’m going to pretend to be brave and post some tummy pics.  I tried including Edda as much as possible but she was being Miss Un-Cooperative so there’s only one of us together.  I did give her some playtime with her fleece strip afterwards and she was a very silly little panther.

I went on the Old Navy website and ordered some tops that are for maternity-minded people like me.  (Translation: they are long enough to cover THE TUMMY and not show off my lovely stretch marks and surgical scars.)  Some of it was on sale thankfully and I had enough on the gift cards from my mommy and mother-in-law to cover everything.  Happy Jen.

Good Gifts Thus Far

January 1st, 2009

Here’s what I’ve gotten in baby gifts so far…

-some newborn and 3 month old clothes from Mom
-a “bouquet” of baby clothes from my in-laws
-a crib from my parents (which will be shipped one of these days)
-a Moby wrap with some Amazon.Com giftcards

If there’s popular demand, I’ll start linking my baby wishlists on Amazon.Com and Target.Com eventually.

A Pregnant Christmas

December 31st, 2008

I spent Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day at home trying to get my new laptop to work.  We flew to Seattle on the 27th and got back today around 4:30 MST.  (Hence the pause in posting, OK?)

My mommy was nice enough to hem my maternity pants from Old Navy and Target.  I don’t even want to know how much material she had to cut off in order to shorten them adequately — let’s just say that I have a 27″ inseam and leave it at that, OK?  I also still need to find maternity tops because my current batch of shirts are not quite long enough to cover my growing tummy.  Thankfully, I still have skirts I can wear when the weather isn’t sub-zero.

I did have my Saturday vomiting time on the 27th just before we got the rental car.  (I then had to deal with Seattle traffic.  Oh flipping joy.)  I had nothing in my stomach so I was just dry-heaving.  The nausea hit again on Monday and while I did make it to the toilet on that one, laundry was still required to take care of the other thing that happens whenever I start vomiting too hard.  There was also the tired achy feeling I’d get if I didn’t sleep well which is currently making me doubt my ability to stay up until midnight tonight.

Catching Up

December 21st, 2008

It was bloody cold (-20F) last Saturday and we had a storm with blowing snow… but I decided to go to Great Falls anyway.  When I hit the edge of Shelby (the nearest town to us), I got hit rapidly with nausea and puked all over myself and my coat and the front seat of the car.  Thankfully, I had a spare coat in the car as well as spare gloves and there was a big enough plastic bag to put all my outerwear into.  I still had to do a couple errands though and I was rather self-conscious about my appearance!  I finally got home, stripped off my nasty clothes, showered, and huddled under blankets.  With windchill, it was -42F outside and I wasn’t much warmer!!!

I got flattened with nausea and vertigo on Monday (in addition to complete lack of sleep) so I was just at work from Tuesday to Friday.  Friday, I had my pre-natal appointment and told Dr. Awesome that I wanted a flu shot.  I mean, I seem to be getting EVERYTHING going around (no thanks to certain of my co-workers who are incapable of washing their hands after they cough or sneeze) and even though I’m having a little bit of reaction to the shot (I’m mildly allergic to eggs), it’s probably the best thing for me.  We’re also temporarily upping my Effexor XR to deal with panic and anxiety right now from the pregnancy hormones.

The fun part of the appointment: the sea monkey did not want to be found for a heartbeat (probably because the little brat was somewhere around my back) so after 5 minutes of pressing on my lower abdomen with her Doppler reader, Dr. Awesome called over to the hospital and told them she needed to play with their ultrasound machine.  So… we marched over there 20 minutes later and they put more cold gel on my stomach and pressed some more.  They did see the baby and we *did* have a fetal heartbeat (148 for those interested).  The sea monkey looks a whole lot like Gollum right now!!!

I did finally get down to Great Falls yesterday and made out like a bandit at Old Navy!  3 pairs of pants for $40.  Granted, I need to take them to Seattle with me next weekend to get hemmed but that’s doable.  Target was also good though I think I might end up taking one pair back when we head to the airport next Friday. They also weren’t having a sale so I think I paid about $60 for the two pairs I got there.  I’m going to go on the Old Navy site and see about finding some tops that work (i.e. that are long enough to cover my belly).

Oh yeah… and I was actually somwhat prepared with a plastic bag when the nausea hit yesterday! I must remember to have saltines with me though…
